Do you know everything Mister Einstein?

// September 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Quite often you will notice specialists taking “a deep dive” only. You can see, feel and even smell their missing business link ending up in their “virtual world”. Recognizing the “big picture” is a mountain too high.

An especially dangerous situation when the balance of decision making is tending to shift to their side. Or am I the only one to notice the “I know it all syndrome”?

Demonstrating your experiences and even more the value that this brings to your customer “in his room” is the weapon to fight with. Use the strengths of teams and limit your actions to your own field! Still strong words or … am I the wiseguy?

Win or Loose?

// September 22nd, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

Very often people express the words “win-win situation”! Not always that easy to capture the real significance of this but without any doubt a crucial element to success.

Hereby some “supportive points” you would need to consider:

  • leave your “individualistic” view behind
  • be an open communicator the moment you have found a trustfull partner
  • combining experiences and insights could make everybody “better”
  • value positive ideas with enthusiasm
  • do not expect immediate miracles but be patient

Some countries and cultures are however not really used to handle this way! Despite the globalisation and the need “to make friends”, some remain in their conservative “cocoon”. At the long run, they will not survive!

Question yourself in a critical way: “Are you win-win or ….win-loose”?  See www.senndelaney.com for great advice on this.

Prison Break

“Prison Break” seems to be the new “vibe” in my homecountry Belgium.

It is just crazy to see to ease to escape (helicopters, open doors, ladders, etc.) as if local authorities play a facilitator role allowing this “free run”! Just like releasing rabbits in an open field for the “blood dogs” to chase them up …. a matter of exercise?

Would constructing an island similar to Alcatraz be the option?

The Art of Understanding

// July 9th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Recently started on a new assignment in an industry like many overloaded with abbreviations. Probably a wellknown story to all of you …

Originally, these “shorter terms” are ment to simplify the world, but mostly just the opposite result is obtained.

Without any doubt, new technologies are driving improvements but they also do increase complexity.

“Keeping it simple” should become a true art of communication! Otherwise we will look like fools more and more …

Are you the perfect “filter” for making things clear?

Discover your safe flight!

Amazing to see that Brussels’ Airport (www.brusselsairlines.com)  opened only one out of seven security gates in this crowded early summer holiday period.

Departing out of Djerba (Tunisia) Airport however, I was confronted with six different identity controls, far too much and making me feel like a criminal!

You should be expecting a well-balanced approach to safety but the first situation lead to:

  • a tremendous cue of waiting passengers
  • crying children and nervous parents
  • very fast safety screenings
  • people rushing to their gates
  • “customers” not feeling happy at all!

For the sake of optimizing the process it would have been better to respectively increase capacity and to consolidate identity checks.You hardly ever know what to expect at an airport!
